Blender is an extremely powerful program, I’ve seen amazing work done in it. This doesn’t always work of course, I’ve seen Vue having been used in film environments and every time I’ve given Vue a shot it’s entirely too slow or just too buggy (xstream).ģd-coat has that whole “hobbyist” stigma still. I know that zbrush, mudbox and mari have all been used in blockbuster films by large studios. All of those programs have been used for years in film and television and everybody is familiar with them. Between Max, Maya, Houdini, XSI etc… it’s not as important.

I agree with the whole movie association thing. Remember that Zbrush was associated with the Lord of the Rings movies, too, and then Mudbox with Weta. And it has been mentioned as a tool used on Avatar, with example images of the movie’s assets.
